What causes patellar tendonitis?
Patellar tendonitis, sometimes called “jumper’s knee,” means the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone is irritated or inflamed. This happens when that tendon is repeatedly stressed, often from:
Overuse: Doing a lot of jumping or running, especially if you haven’t been active lately.
Tight Muscles: If the muscles in your thighs (quadriceps) are tight, they can put extra strain on the patellar tendon.
Weak Muscles: Weak thigh muscles can also make the tendon work harder than it should.
Flat Feet: Having flat feet can change the way you move, putting stress on your knees.
* Improper Training: Increasing training intensity or duration too quickly can overload the tendon.
It’s important to remember that this is general information. If you think you might have patellar tendonitis, it’s crucial to see a doctor or physical therapist for a proper diagnosis and to discuss treatment options that are right for you.
