What causes cervical stenosis?
Cervical stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal in your neck. This can happen for a few different reasons:
Aging: As we age, the discs between our vertebrae can wear down and bulge, and the ligaments that support our spine can thicken. These changes can take up space in the spinal canal.
Arthritis: Conditions like osteoarthritis can cause bone spurs to form, which can narrow the spinal canal.
Injuries: Trauma to your neck can cause the discs to herniate or the ligaments to thicken.
Genetic Factors: Some people are born with a narrow spinal canal.
It’s important to remember that experiencing symptoms like neck pain or stiffness doesn’t automatically mean you have cervical stenosis. If you are concerned about any changes in your health, it’s always best to talk to your doctor. They can determine the cause of your symptoms and help you get the right treatment.
